あへなし（ガッカリ・・）

★解説

古語に「敢ふ（あふ）」という単語があります。意味は「なんとか持ちこたえる、辛坊する」という意味なのですが、今回紹介する「あへなし＝敢へなし」は、「敢ふ（あふ）」ことができない、つまり「持ちこたえられない、辛坊できない」というのが元々の語義です。

「持ちこたえることができない→あっけなく張り合いがない→拍子抜けがする→ガッカリする」と言う風に段々意味が広がっていき、「あへなし」は「期待はずれでガッカリした感じ」を表す単語となりました。
